Asus ZenFone Selfie with 13MP Front and Rear Cameras Launched at IFA 2015

Asus ZenFone Selfie

Asus has not taken long to join the selfie bandwagon, where some brands have already put out their products to fill the gap. Selfies have been one of the very commonly taken captures these days, and thus has been a heavy need for smartphones with better selfie cameras. After Micromax had its Canvas Selfie, and HTC with its Desire Eye, Asus has now announced ZenFone Selfie (ZD551KL) priced at Rs.15,999, with a 13-megapixel camera on the front.

To add to the good camera on the front, both the cameras, i.e. rear and front, come with dual-tone flash. On the rear camera, there is even more improvement to the 13MP camera, which even the flagship Asus ZenFone 2 didn’t have – Laser autofocus. The laser autofocus was seen on LG G3, and now on the G4 as well, and it assists in quick focusing in even low light conditions. While it is a F/2.0 aperture for the back camera, the ZenFone Selfie’s front camera has a F/2.2 aperture and a 88-degree wide-angle lens for group selfies.

Asus Zenfone Selfie Phone

Some specifications match up to the Asus ZenFone 2, except for the core. The flagship series had Intel Atom processors, but the Chinese manufacturer has opted for a Qualcomm chipset for the ZenFone Selfie, as the device comes with Qualcomm Snapdragon 615 octa-core processor. The display is the same as in ZenFone 2, i.e. a 5.5-inch 1080p display, but there is Gorilla Glass 4 for screen protection.

Even on the design side, there is no big difference, as we see a curved body with the buttons placed on the back. But that’s again, the volume rocker button on the back, and the power button still is located on the top of the phone, not a very appropriate position to have a power button when the body is this big.

The device comes in two storage variants, one with 2GB of RAM and 16GB of internal storage, while the other variant features 3GB of RAM and 32GB of internal storage. It comes with a 3,000mAh battery, microSD card slot, and dual SIM support. It runs on Android 5.0 Lollipop based Zen UI. The device measures 156.5 x 77.2 x 10.8 mm and weighs 170 grams. The availability of the device is not mentioned but it comes in the colors – Pure White, Chic Pink, and Aqua Blue.
