ASUS to Reportedly Launch ROG Phone 2 Gaming Smartphone on July 23rd in China

At the Computex event in June last year, ASUS unveiled its first ever gaming smartphone called ROG Phone. It was later launched in the Indian market for Rs 69,999. Recently, the company has confirmed its partnership with the China-based Tencent Games to launch the second-gen ROG Phone. The teaser posted on the Weibo also confirmed the ROG Phone 2 to come with a 120Hz display. Till date, only the Razer Phone and Razer Phone 2 came with the 120Hz display. While the Razer Phones come with LCD panel, the upcoming ROG Phone 2 might offer 120Hz refresh rate with the AMOLED panel.
According to the source, the company will be launching the ROG Phone 2 on July 23rd in Beijing, China. The event is scheduled to happen a week ahead of Chinajoy, the largest gaming expo in China, which will be held annually in Shanghai, China. This year, Chinajoy (China Digital Entertainment Expo & Conference) will be held from August 2nd to 5th. Talking about the device, the ROG Phone 2 could be launched in two variants. The base variant is rumored to be costing around CNY 4399 (approx USD 635 / INR 44,500). The ROG Phone 2 will be competing with the Nubia Red Magic 3 and Black Shark 2 smartphones.
While the gaming smartphone market is still a small niche, ASUS doesn’t want to miss out the growing trend of smartphone gamers in the markets like China. Talking about the device itself, we can expect the device to come powered by the 7nm Qualcomm Snapdragon 855 Mobile Platform. Last year’s ROG Phone came with 10nm Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 Mobile Platform overclocked at 2.96GHz. Just like the original ROG Phone, the upcoming ROG Phone 2 might also support the accessories like TwinView Dock, Mobile Desktop Dock, and Gamevice controller.
The first-gen ROG Phone came with a diamond-cut design and included a backlit LED logo on the rear. It even included two USB Type-C charging ports – one on the bottom edge and the other one is side-mounted for charging the device while gaming. On the side edge, there are two programmable ultrasonic AirTriggers. With the ROG Phone, ASUS also added Aura RGB lighting and Aura Sync support on a smartphone for the first time. In terms of optics, the ROG Phone sports 12MP + 8MP dual camera setup on the rear and an 8MP single selfie camera on the front. Stay tuned on Phone Radar for more details!
