Apple’s AirPower Delayed but its Clone is already Launched & Selling in China

The all-new iPhone X, iPhone 8, and iPhone 8 Plus launched in 2017 came with the wireless charging support. Apple also announced to sell a wireless charging case for the Airpods in 2018. As of now, Apple doesn’t sell any Apple-branded wireless charging pads, but the company previewed the AirPower wireless charging mat at the 2017 iPhone launch event. Unlike the wireless chargers currently available in the market, the AirPower can simultaneously charge multiple devices.
The company is said to be working with Qi to integrate this new technology into their standards. Talking about the availability, Apple announced the AirPower to be available in early 2018. However, the Chinese companies are already selling the AirPower-like wireless chargers in the local markets. The AirPower clone in the below video looks exactly similar to the original Airpower but comes in a smaller form factor.
Except that it can charge two devices simultaneously, there is no other information available about this wireless charging pad. The AirPower clone might retail lesser than a quarter of the rumored $199 price tag of the original AirPower. However, the Chinese AirPower wireless charging pad will surely lack the Qi certification and the 7.5W fast charging support. The list of the Apple products that support wireless charging includes the 2017 iPhones, Apple Watch, and the Airpods with wireless charging case.
The AirPower was announced almost four months back, and it so long time for Shenzhen to come up with a similar product. Many of the Kickstarter products will be on sale in China even before the actual product achieves its funding goals. The $100 GooPhone X looks similar to iPhone X and was on sale in China just a couple days after the Apple’s official announcement. So, we aren’t surprised to see the Apple AirPower clone at all.
