Ever wondered how would it be if your smartphone was also your computer? Well, with the mission of mobile computing revolution, Planet Computer innovation delivered their Gemini PDA product to more than 7000 Indiegogo backers and now there have started developing their new device which will also be their flagship device called as Cosmo Communicator. The device has been listed on Indiegogo for $1098 for a pack of two Cosmos and the estimated delivery is May 2019.
Now, what is a Cosmo Communicator? If that question is troubling you then let’s take a look at what the device will be offering. Basically, Cosmo Communicator is a modern dual-screen clamshell mobile communicator that will be coming with an integrated keyboard. The main aim to build this device is to make it a pocket computer, a mobile phone and also an excellent high-resolution camera. Isn’t that interesting?
The Cosmo will be featuring dual color displays among which one is an external color touchscreen display for making phone calls and also controlling notifications, while the other one is inside the clamshell design which is a 6-inch touchscreen display. This bigger screen also has a fully functioning keyboard integrated into the device. When this clamshell device is opened, it will be acting like a support device which will allow its users to type comfortably.
The device has a newly designed backlit keyboard and the Cosmo also has a 24MP camera for selfies and the camera can be operated directly without having to open the clamp. Moreover, it is also claimed to support dual 4G SIM connections for calls and date and will also be having the connectivity options like Bluetooth, NFC, and Wi-Fi. The handset also has a toggle switch for unlocking the device and also that acts as a fingerprint sensor and also a call button.
The Cosmo comes with a 4220mAh battery and is powered with an Octa-core MediaTek P70 SoC along with a separate AI processor as well as GPU. There is 6GB of RAM and a onboard storage on 128GB that can be extended further with a microSD card slot. The device runs on Android 9.0 Pie operating system out of the box and also supports Linux OS such as Sailfish OS and Debian with a multi-boot option.
The handset measures 17.14 cm x 7.73 cm c 1.6 cm and weighs around 320 grams. The main display comes with 2160 x 1080 pixels resolution giving 403-pixel density on its 5.99-inch AMOLED screen and is also protected with a scratch resistant glass on top. The external display is of 2-inch with 570 x 240-pixel resolution. The internal camera is 5MP while there is 24MP external camera sensor. It will be available in Space Grey Metal and Gold-plated variants, where the latter will be limited edition.
With Cosmo, the user can run Microsoft Office for Android apps and the device is listed on Indiegogo for funding. With the aim of raising $200,000 which will directly go for funding the final design phases along with the development of the Android 9 and Linux firmware. Early backers will be at least have $250 off on the planned retailed price and the initial delivery will start in May 2019 only for Cosmo backers.
