Alcatel, the sub-brand of TCL has some good market share in the Western countries. The company had already announced its MWC 2017 press event to be held on February 2017 in Barcelona where it is rumored to unveil five new smartphones. Even at the last year’s MWC, the company launched half a dozen smartphones, and most of them are the entry-level devices. Talking about the upcoming smartphones, there are no official details mentioned, but the recent leaks suggest one of the device to come with a modular feature. Apart from the modular phone, the company will be launching four more smartphones, and we expect them to sport entry-level specifications.

At the MWC 2016, LG came up with the LG G5 and a bunch of modular parts called as ‘Friends.’ While the device came out to be good, the company hasn’t created much interest in the consumers towards its modular features. Compared to other flagship smartphones launched at the MWC, the LG G5 has generated very few sales. However, in the second half of 2016, Lenovo launched the Moto Z and Moto Z Play smartphones with modular back panels called Moto Mods. Unlike the LG G5, the Moto Z series has seen the success even with the modular feature. In November last year, Lenovo also mentioned that the Moto Z sales had crossed one million globally which is huge for the struggling Chinese company.

Talking about the upcoming modular smartphone from Alcatel, it is said to feature a 13MP rear camera with dual tone LED flash and a MediaTek octa-core processor. We also expect the device to run on the latest Android 7.0 Nougat OS instead of the Marshmallow. The modularity of the device is expected to be very limited, the company might be offering LED back cases as seen in the above featured image. The back case might work in the same as the JBL Pulse Bluetooth speaker which lits in a pattern based on the music playback. It is also expected to be priced at HUF 100,000 in Hungary, which converts approximately to $345 or Rs. 23,500.

At the recently concluded CES 2017, Alcatel launched the a new entry-level smartphone called Alcatel A3 XL. The device is priced at just $200 and comes with a huge 6-inch IPS HD (1280 x 720 pixels) display. It is powered by an unspecified MediaTek quad-core processor clocked at 1.1GHz and coupled with 1GB of RAM and 8GB of internal storage. The device also sports an 8MP rear camera and a 5MP front camera. It measures 7.9mm thickness and features a 3,000mAh battery. On back of the Alcatel A3 XL is a circular fingerprint sensor that can also be used as a shutter button in the camera app. It runs on slightly customized version of the latest Android 7.0 Nougat. Connectivity options include 4G LTE, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 4.2, GPS, USB OTG, 3.5mm Audio port, and a MicroUSB 2.0 port. Stay tuned on Phone Radar for more details!
