ZUK is the online exclusive smartphone brand from Lenovo. After debuting the smartphone market in 2015, the company had launched only three smartphones till date. While 2015 launched ZUK Z1 is the company’s first ever smartphone, this year, it had launched ZUK Z2 and Z2 Pro smartphones. Earlier this year, a new entry-level smartphone called ZUK R1 is listed on GFXbench. Now almost six months after the listing, the live images of the device are now leaked in China. It comes with large bezels around the display and features on-screen buttons along with a physical home button.
Talking about the specifications, it comes with a 4.6-inch display with HD (1280 x 720 pixels) resolution. The GFXbench listing mentioned the device to feature a 4.7-inch display. It is powered by the 64-bit MediaTek Helio P10 MT6755 octa-core processor clocked at 1.81GHz and coupled with Mali T860 GPU. The variant listed on GFXbench sports 3GB of RAM and 32GB of internal storage whereas the variant spotted in the images comes with 2GB of RAM and 16GB of storage. The home button is expected to support gestures as seen on the earlier launched ZUK smartphones and might come equipped with a fingerprint sensor.
The power button and volume rocker are placed on the right edge of the device while the SIM card slot can be found on the left edge. On the camera front, the R1 will be featuring a 13MP rear camera with LED flash and 5 MP front camera. It sports a metal body with a slight curve on the back. It runs on Android 6.0 Marshmallow with the in-house ZUI on top.Today, the company launched the 6GB RAM variant of the ZUK Z2 Pro running on Android 7.0 Nougat based ZUI. Soon the ZUK Z2 and Z1 will also be updated to the latest Android OS.
Interestingly, the ZUK Z1 is the world’s first Snapdragon 801 powered smartphone to get the Nougat update. While the ZUK Z2 powered by Snapdragon 820 processor is currently selling for just 1099 Yuan in China, we guess the ZUK R1 to be priced much lower than it. The same ZUK Z2 which is launched in India as Lenovo ZUK Z2 Plus is retailing at Rs. 17,999 for the 3GB RAM variant and Rs. 19,999 for the 4GB RAM variant. Since there is no information from the company, we might not see the official launch of ZUK R1 anytime soon.
The Lenovo Z2 Plus (a.k.a ZUK Z2) comes with a 5-inch Full HD display and is the most affordable Snapdragon 820 powered smartphone in India. The 3GB RAM variant comes with 32GB of storage while the 4GB RAM variant comes with doubled storage of 64GB. It sports a 13MP rear camera, an 8MP front camera, and a 3,500mAh battery. The Z2 Plus also supports Quick Charge 3.0 with the USB Type-C 3.0 port. It supports 4G VoLTE along with other basic connectivity features. The device comes fiberglass frame and is available only in Black and White colors.
