Surprise, Mi fans! Xiaomi has launched a new variant of its wildly popular phablet, Redmi Note 3, in China. The new Redmi Note 3 variant has a Snapdragon processor instead of the MediaTek Helios X10 on the Note 3, which is Qualcomm’s new Hexa-core chipset, the Snapdragon 650. Announced on company’s official weibo (micro-blogging website) page, the device is going to sale on January 17 via Mi.com for 999 Yuan,i.e. $151.

Is that it, only the processor is different? Well, no, the new handset reportedly has a 16-megapixel image sensor that has a support of phase detection autofocus (PDAF) technology. That’s it. Other features like RAM, internal storage, battery capacity, it’s all similar to the original model.

Talking in detail, the new xiaomi handset sports a 5.5-inch 1080p IPS display with a viewing angle of 178 degree, while there is no mention of which protection glass company uses on the Redmi Note 3 second variant. Under the hood is the Hexa-core Snapdragon 650 chipset, which is a combination of 4x 1.2GHz ARM A53 and 2x 1.8GHz ARM A57. The 64-bit processor is accompanied by an Adreno 510 GPU for graphics processing.

There are two variants, 2GB RAM and 16GB internal storage, 3GB and 32GB internal storage, according to your needs you can opt for one. It would be running on the MIUI 7 latest version, company’s custom ROM is based on the Android Lollipop 5.1 version. While established that the camera on the rear is 16-megapixel with LED and PDAF technology for faster focusing, the camera on the front seems to be the same as original handset, its 5-megapixel module.

Regarding the connectivity features, it has 4G LTE network support for faster internet connectivity and high quality voice calls. Other connectivity options include dual SIM, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, GLONASS + GPS, Infrared and microUSB. All this would be powered by a 4000mAh capacity battery. The device measure 8.65mm thickness while it has a weight of 164 grams.

The pricing for 2GB model starts at 999 Yuan while there is no pricing mentioned for the 3GB variant. Looks like on the January 17 sale on company’s official website, only 2GB variant would be going on sale. There is also a hope that the original model of this impressive metal phablet would be coming to India sooner than we think, as company has started to look for 100 explorers in the country for Redmi Note 3.
