After months of rumors and leaks, the Xiaomi Mi 6 is now officially launched in China. Lei Jun, CEO of Xiaomi showcased the devices on the stage. This new device will be the successor to the popular Mi 5 smartphone which was launched at the MWC 2016. The Samsung Galaxy S8 & S8 Plus comes with Snapdragon 835 SoC, but they are only limited to the U.S and other markets will get the Exynos 8895 powered variants. Coming to the Xiaomi Mi6, the device packs only the Qualcomm’s flagship mobile processor, Snapdragon 835 SoC. One important thing to know about the Xiaomi Mi 6 is the lack of 3.5mm Audio port.
The device comes with glossy finish back body using the curved glass as seen on its predecessor, Xiaomi Mi 5. While the Mi 5 came with two-sided 3D curved glass, the Mi 6 sports four-sided 3D curved glass. The thin metal frame around the device adds strength to withstand the bends. As rumors suggested, the company offered a 2.5D flat panel glass instead of the curved glass on the front. Apart from the Black and White color variants, the devices now come in Blue color which looks gorgeous with the shiny finish on the rear. There is also a Mi 6 Silver Edition with the silver-colored 3D curved glass on the rear and stainless steel frame. It comes with ultra reflective mirror finish similar to the Sony Xperia Z5 Premium.
On the front, we can see big bezels on the top and bottom of the device. As seen with the Xiaomi Mi 5S, the new Mi 6 also uses the under-glass fingerprint sensor placed on the bottom bezel. The dual-lens camera is placed in the top-left corner on the rear and there is no camera bump as seen on other flagship devices. On the right edge, we can find the power button and volume rocker and on the left edge, there is a dual SIM slot. As seen with the earlier launched Xiaomi flagship, there is no MicroSD card slot for storage expansion. Though the device is not water and dust resistant, at least they made it splashproof.
Talking about the specifications, it sports a 5.15-inch Sunlight display with Full HD (1920 x 1080 pixels) resolution and offers a pixel density of 428 PPI. It comes with 600nit of maximum brightness and also 1nit of minimum brightness. It even reduces the harmful blue light and the Chinese variant of the Mi 6 gets the National Eye Center certification. The Snapdragon 835 SoC built on a 10nm FinFET process is clocked at 2.45GHz and comes coupled with Adreno 540 GPU. It comes accompanied with 6GB of RAM and will be available in 64GB and 128GB storage variants. With the MIUI optimizations and power efficient 10nm processor, the 3,350mAh non-removable battery on this device is said to give a day-long battery life.
As it comes with improved NFC support, the Mi 6 now offers 30% faster payment transactions via Alipay and WeChat. The dual speakers placed on the top and bottom of the device offers stereo sound effect. Coming to the cameras on this device, there is a 12MP wide-angle lens along with 12MP telephoto lens on the rear offering four axis OIS (Optical Image Stabilization) and 2x optical lossless zoom. It also offers 10x digital zoom with ISP algorithm which will not be as good as optical zoom. For selfies, there is an 8MP front camera with 36 smart beauty filters. It measures 145.17 x 70.49 x 7.45 mm and weighs 168 grams.
The device comes with 3 carrier aggregation (3CA) and offers mobile network by seamlessly switching between the best possible network. Connectivity options include 4G LTE, Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n/ac, 2×2 MIMO, Bluetooth 5.0, NFC, GPS, A-GPS, GLONASS, and a USB Type-C 3.0 port. With all these top-notch specifications, the Mi 6 is priced at 2499 Yuan (approx $363 / Rs. 23,500) for the 6GB RAM + 64GB storage variant and 2899 Yuan (approx $421 / Rs. 27,200) for the 6GB RAM + 128GB storage variant. There is also a ceramic variant of the Mi 6 with 6GB of RAM and 128GB of storage that comes with a price tag of 2999 Yuan (approx $435 / Rs. 28,200). As seen with high-end Mi MIX, the ceramic variant of the Mi 6 also comes with 18k golden rings around the two camera sensors on the rear.
