A couple of weeks after the launch of the Galaxy S8 smartphones in the U.S., Samsung has finally launched them here in India. The company has launched both the Galaxy S8 as well as the Galaxy S8 Plus smartphones here for the Indian market at an event here in New Delhi. The company started a Galaxy S8 pre-registration page on April 5th where interested people were allowed to sign up to receive notifications regarding the smartphone. Even Flipkart started teasing the launch of the smartphones on its website and now we finally have the device launched officially.
Talking about the devices themselves, we knew everything about them since they were already launched in the U.S as mentioned earlier. The only thing which we didn’t know what the price of both the devices. And now talking about the prices, the Galaxy S8 in India is priced at 57,900 INR and the larger variant the Galaxy S8+ is priced at 64,900 INR. Now with these prices, they are definitely not the cheapest costing phone on the market, however, they are certainly worth the price which you are paying, with all those top notch specs and premium build quality.
Now talking about the specifications of the phones, both of them are very similar. Both the Galaxy S8 and the Galaxy S8+ are powered by an Exynos processor, along with 4GB of RAM. There is also 64GB of internal storage which can be further expanded via a microSD card upto 256GB. The USP of both the devices, however, is the display on the front. The Galaxy S8 has a 5.8″ sAMOLED display on the front and the larger variant the Galaxy S8+ has a 6.2″ sAMOLED display. The aspect ratio is a little different and hence the resolution as well, coming in at 1440 x 2960.
On the camera side of things, the things are unchanged from the last year. Both the devices have a 12 MP camera at the back with a f/1.7 aperture. On the front, there is an 8MP camera this time around, again with the same f/1.7 aperture. This year, Samsung has played safe with the batteries and we have a 3,000 mAh battery on the Galaxy S8 and a 3,500 mAh battery on the Galaxy S8+. Both the devices are IP certified for dust and water resistance and they come with Iris scanner on the front along with face recognition as well. The Galaxy S8 and the Galaxy S8+ both are running on Android 7.0 Nougat based Samsung Experience software. And yes, don’t forget about the new Bixby assistant.
Samsung also launched the new Gear VR which also comes with a controller. And along with that, we also got the new Gear 360 camera. Talking about the availability, both the Galaxy S8 and the S8+ will be available exclusively via Flipkart & Samsung outlets starting 5th May and you can pre-order them starting today and get the free wireless charger.
