The Galaxy S6 Edge, with the dual edge screen on the front, is officially launched in India, alongside the actual flagship Galaxy S6 smartphone. It has the same Exynos 7420 processor with 3GB LPDDR4 RAM and it comes with 32GB and 64GB internal storage versions.
The Galaxy S6 Edge and the S6, both will be available from April 10th.
The price details are as follows:
32GB: Rs. 58,900
64GB: Rs. 64,900
128GB: Rs. 70,900
While the flagship Samsung Galaxy S6 steals the limelight, the special variant of it, i.e. the S6 Edge has its own set of audience. The South Korean electronics giant has officially announced these two smartphones at the Unpacked event in MWC 2015, and the Galaxy S6 Edge seems to be something worth checking out, if you are someone looking at products that take a step away from the standard designs and concepts.
576 PPI is the pixel density you see here, for a 5.1-inch display having a 2650 x 1440 pixels resolution. There is an edge display on both the sides of the device, and that is more to do with the aesthetics, not the functionality. The device gets a more seamless look, and the phone actually looks beautiful. It has an aluminum trim bezel and Gorilla Glass 4 on the front and back.
Under the hood, is the 14nm 64-bit Samsung Exynos 7420 processor, with 3GB of RAM. There are storage options of 32GB, 64GB and 128GB, but there is no MicroSD card slot for expansion. Based on Android 5.0 Lollipop, the TouchWiz UI still stays and there are some enhanced features if no changes to the current interface that we had been seeing in the recent flagship devices from Samsung.
The camera on the back is a 16-megapixel sensor, f/1.9 lens and it has Optical image stabilization. On the front, you see a 5-megapixel camera with wide-angle lens for selfies. The other features continued from the Galaxy S5, include finger print sensor, and heart rate sensor as well as the IR blaster.
The color options for the S6 Edge will include white pearl, black sapphire, gold platinum, and green emerald. The phone will be rolled out globally, on April 10th.
Samsung’s Galaxy Note Edge gave the company an idea that the edge screen can be played around with. If it isn’t the flagship where they won’t experiment, a new variant can be brought in – and that is where we get to see a specialized variant of the Galaxy S6, as the numerous rumors and now the leaks of Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge emerge to show the device in full detail.
The most recent leaks show that the two devices are no different with the specs, except a little higher battery capacity in the S6 Edge, but the major change is with the extra edge screen on the front, which is not as prominent as it was in the Galaxy Note Edge.
The exclusive preview from Youtuber Unbox Therapy gave a clear detail of how the Edge screen looks like, and according to the video, we are going to see Gorilla Glass 4 on both, front and back. There will be an aluminum frame, and now, you won’t be able to remove the back cover, and there is a compromise with the MicroSD slot as you might no more be able to increase the storage. The water resistance that was seen in the Galaxy S5, might be gone as well.
The specs include a 5.1-inch 1440p display, an octa-core processor (probably Samsung’s own Exynos 7420, 64-bit) with 3GB RAM and a 20-megapixel camera which pops out of the body, as Samsung tries to keep the body slimmer than the predecessors. We hope there is no big compromise done with the battery capacity, for a slimmer design. There is wireless charging supported though.
One major change that many might like about the Galaxy S6 and S6 Edge, is the way Fingerprint sensor will work. It is said to be working the same way Touch ID on Apple iPhone does.
Samsung’s MWC 2015 announcement is on March 1st, and we are looking forward for these two devices. Stay tuned for the updates.
