Samsung Galaxy J5 - Display

Samsung is rolling out a major software update to its last year’s Galaxy J5 smartphone. The J5 is receiving Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow based improved TouchWiz interface. The South Korean giant is finally rolling out a much-awaited update to its affordable J Series handset. Note that this is an OTA roll out of 874.11 MB, so we recommend you download this on a stable Wi-Fi internet connection, but not over mobile data. Unless you have a strong mobile data connection with enough data package.

The brand has been updating its last year’s handset since couple weeks, the latest in the list is the mid-range Galaxy J5 2015. If you didn’t know, Samsung has already launched a 2016 model for the J5, which we have recently reviewed as well. Where the company was touting the S Bike mode a lot. We hope that feature is also rolled out with this major software update for the J5 2015 users.

Samsung Galaxy J5 - Android Marshmallow Update

Talking about the changelog, you’ll notice a major change in the looks of system settings and notification bar. As well as there would be a slight tweak in animations all over the system. Moreover, you should also notice some improvements in performance too. The brand has also included the latest security patch, which is now a part of Google’s security updates every month.

Moreover, there is an introduction of the advanced power saving mode that restricts the background data and extends battery life. Samsung didn’t specify, but the advanced power saving mode is the Doze mode introduced by Google on Android 6.0 Marshmallow OS last year. There is also an introduction to a new vibration pattern.

If you haven’t received this update on your Galaxy J5 2015 model, well, you might have to manually check for that. To do so, head over to the Settings app and tap on About section. There you’ll find a Download updates manually option. Tapping on it will manually check if any OTA updates are sent your way, if yes, then you’ll shortly see the window popup for the update.

We recommend you to keep battery life more than 50% so that the complete procedure of downloading and installing the latest operating system is carried out without any interference. Let us know in the comments section about your feedback of this major software update.

Wait, that phone looks very similar to the Grand Prime, has the same amount of ram, and the same cpu speed. I shall have hope for marshmallow and its most important feature, to me at least, making SD cards internal storage!
