New Balance, the popular sports shoe manufacturing company announced to launch a new smart watch based on Android Wear OS. They announced this last year when they joined hands with one of the leading chipset maker Intel for this new Android Wear device. Now after all this, the watch finally has a name and identity and we have a good look at it at CES 2017 show floor. First of all, considering the fact that it is coming a company which is known for running shoes, etc. if you are expecting an Android smartwatch with a classic look, then you should look some where else.
The RunIQ is what New Balance is calling this smart watch and as the name suggests, it is more like a sports wear. It is powered by Intel’s Z34XX processor and it has a 1.39-inch circular AMOLED display on the front. The watch also has 512MB of RAM along with 4GB of internal storage. It also has GPS capabilits and the back casing has a an optical heart rate sensor. Being a smart watch suitable for runnig, it has a seperate lap button and interval capability as well. The company claims that the battery will run 24-hours on a single charge but if you are keeping the GPS and heart rate monitor on always, then you can expect it to run only for about 5 hours.
Since it is a smart watch, users can also pair it with their smartphone via Bluetooth or Wi-Fi and recieve notifications on the go or even listen to music on Google Play Music. Apart from that it also has something called as New Balance Global Run Club feature which is powered by Strava. Using that you can communicate with other New Balance runners. This is more like a runners community just like what fitbit has it’s own fitness community and it is always nice to have such features. This smart watch from New Balance in association with Intel will run you $299.99 and the watch comes in black color with a grey face. If you are willing to purchase one then be advised that the pre-order go live starting today i.e. January 5th and the watch will be available starting Fenruary 1st at all the New Balance stores and online along with other accessories as well.
