Earlier: Earlier in May, Lenovo launched the Moto G4 and Moto G4 Plus smartphones. Though we felt launching two devices as a surprise, the company indeed launched one more Moto G called Moto G4 Play. Unlike the Moto G4 and G4 Plus, the Moto G4 Play availability in India is unknown. But the cover image of the Moto India Twitter handle revealed the device to be exclusively sold through Amazon India. starting from September 6th. It shares the same design as Moto G4 and G4 Plus but comes in a smaller form factor with cut down specifications. [Latest Price of Moto G4 Play -[amazon_link asins=’B01FM7GIR4′ template=’PriceLink’ store=’prblog02-21′ marketplace=’IN’ link_id=’fe2fbeb0-ded9-11e6-83bd-ddb29286d30b’]]

The Moto G4 Play comes with a 5-inch HD (1280 x 720 pixels) display with a pixel density of 294 ppi. Under the hood is the 1.2GHz Snapdragon 410 quad-core processor along with Adreno 306 GPU. Last year’s Moto G3 also came with the same Snapdragon 410 chipset. It includes 2GB of RAM and 16GB of internal storage that can be further expanded via provided MicroSD card slot. The device runs on Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow with zero bloatware apps.

The nano coating on the device at least makes it splash proof. In the camera department, it sports an 8MP rear camera with f/2.2 aperture and LED flash that can record videos at 1080p resolution. For selfies, the Moto G4 Play packs a 5MP front camera with f/2.2 aperture and display flash that helps in capturing decent selfies even in dark light conditions. It is backed by a smaller 2,800mAh battery and also misses the Turbo Charging feature.

Connectivity options include 4G LTE, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 4.1 LE, GPS, and a MicroUSB 2.0 port. The device comes with dual SIM dual standby and includes single stereo speaker placed on top of the display. It measures 144.4 x 72 x 9.9 mm and weighs 137 grams. The pricing of the device isn’t mentioned but comparing with the Moto G4 Plus, which is priced at Rs. 13,499 for 2GB RAM variant, the Moto G4 Play may cost around Rs. 9,000 price range.

It’s a decent device but considering the retail price of Redmi Note 3 I guess Moto missed a trick by reducing the price further.

    I guess that’s Moto E3

    • Robin Ghai

I an wrong it is Moto G4 play

  • Looks like Lenovo scrapping the E series in India!! At this price and specs Lenovo can’t compete with Xiaomi!!

Even if you disregard the two Xiaomi phones at around the 9-10 mark, I’d rather pick last year’s ZF 2 Laser over this one. The specs are almost identical, but that once’s better in every sense apart from the bloatware. Larger screen, bigger battery, more sensors, 10-pt multi-touch, dual LTE slots (only one at a time though), separate microSD card slot, Laser AF.

This one can only work in the online bazaar if priced at 7K or maybe even 8, and even that will be a bit of a stretch. I ain’t paying a penny more than 7K for this TBH.
