Earlier: Mar 2, 2016 – In September last year, Meizu has launched a high-end smartphone Meizu Pro 5 under a new Pro series. While it runs on Android 5.1 Lollipop OS with Meizu’s Flyme 5 UI overlaid, last month the company has also unveiled the Meizu Pro 5 Ubuntu Edition. According to the image posted on Weibo by Yang Yan, VP of Meizu, the Meizu Pro 6 is expected to feature 3D Touch technology.
Though ZTE and Huawei has launched the smartphones with pressure sensitive display, Apple has made the complete use of this new technology by enabling new software features such as Quick Actions, Live Photos and Peek and Pop in the iPhone 6S and 6S Plus. At the recently held MWC, Gionee has unveiled the Gionee S8 with the same as kind of display and recognizes the differences between Tap, Touch, and Press.
Now Meizu will be fourth Chinese manufacturer to try out this new technology, and we don’t have any information about the complete set of new features that uses the pressure sensitive display. The shared screenshot of the Meizu Pro 6 confirms the device to feature Quick Actions Menu option, but as seen with Gionee S8, there are no apps supporting this new technology on Android apart from the system apps.
The upcoming iPhone 5SE that will be launched later this month was earlier rumored to support 3D Touch but later leaks confirmed the device to launch without 3D Touch display. If the rumors are to be believed, the Pro 6 will be powered by the Samsung Exynos 8890 octa-core processor coupled with 4GB of RAM and 64GB of internal storage.
With the confirmation of Meizu Pro 6, we don’t expect the company to launch the smaller Pro 5 Mini. Apart from the shared screenshot, nothing is yet confirmed about the Meizu Pro 6.
