Leaked images of the Oppo R9s shows a new Slot-Antenna design on the back

by Teja Chedalla 5

As it was already reported earlier, the Oppo R9s is all set to be launched on October 19th. The company’s website also shows a countdown for the same. This new smartphone from the company will be launched with a Sony’s new IMX398 sensor as well. So this is something to be on a look out for as it will bring some new camera improvements on the table. And now that we are so close to the official launch event, some images of the device has made an appearance online.

Taking a look at the images, we can see that the company has come up with some new design for the antenna bands that runs across the back of the device. Yes, antenna bands on the back of the smartphones are not the beautiful thing to look at, but this is actually interesting. As you can see that they have come up with some new slot antenna design. Note that these images were posted by the company itself on its official weibo page. There are three slots in total that run horizontally just below the camera sensor. These won’t cause any trouble to the signal while handling the device.

This new design is definitely a welcome move since it eliminates the ugly looking antenna bands, well, not literally but it at least does a great job. Now we just have to wait and see how it looks in real life. As mentioned earlier, the device is already listed on the website with a countdown, where you can reserve a unit for the flash sale. However, if you want more info before proceeding with one, then stay tuned for more info on this as we will update, once we have more details on the same.

Earlier – Oppo has decided to unveil its upcoming R9s on 19th of October with Sony’s new IMX398 camera sensor. Oppo has sent invites for the launch events in China and already there are TV commercials running in China. The earlier leaks turned out to be true as it was mentioned the release date would be 19th October.

Earlier: OPPO R9s Leaked to Feature 16MP Camera with F/1.7 Aperture, to Launch on October 19th

Just after the MWC 2016 in March, where OPPO showcased the SmartSensor Image Stabilization and Super VOOC technologies, OPPO launched two smartphones – OPPO R9 and R9 Plus in China. At that time the devices are just limited to the Chinese market and have received a great response for their camera capabilities along with other high-end specifications. Both the devices came with a Super AMOLED display and a 16MP selfie camera. These are also the best selling smartphones in the first half of 2016 in China. From the last few months, there are quite a few rumors about the launch of a third device in the R9 series called OPPO R9s.

Last month the company also launched the new variant of OPPO R9 with the model number R9km with JDI displays as there is a huge demand for AMOLED display panels. Now we got much more information related to the device along with a couple of poster images. The device is rumored to be launched officially on October 19th in China. We are also expecting the device to feature the latest Super VOOC flash charging technology that is rated to fully charge a 2,500mAh battery in just 15 minutes. It can reach from 0% to 45% within a time span of 5 minutes. Though it can be possible with the power adapter and the USB cable provided by the company.

Unlike the earlier launched R9 and R9 Plus, the OPPO R9s doesn’t feature an AMOLED display. It comes with a 5.5-inch IPS panel withFull HD (1920 x 1080 pixels) resolution. While the OPPO R9 came with a MediaTek Helio P10 octa-core processor, the upcoming R9s includes a 64-bit Snapdragon 625 octa-core processor clocked at 2.0GHz and coupled with Adreno 506 GPU. It also packs 4GB of RAM and 64GB of onboard storage along with MicroSD card for storage expansion. We are at least expecting the company to bring the Android 6.0 Marshmallow based Color OS with the OPPO R9s.

The recently launched devices came with Color OS 3.0 based on Android 5.1 Lollipop. The design of the device remains same as on R9 and R9 Plus with an oval shaped physical home button on the front. The home button comes integrated with the fingerprint sensor. However, from the above images, we can see the Antenna bands missing on the rear. The power button is placed on the right edge of the device and the volume rocker sits on the left edge. It is backed by 3,010mAh non-removable battery along with OPPO’s patented VOOC flash charge support. The battery on this device is slightly better than the OPPO R9 which came with a 2,850mAh battery.

Connectivity options expected on this device are 4G, VoLTE, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 4.1, GPS, and MicroUSB 2.0 port. Talking about the USP of the R9 series, the R9 came with a 13MP rear camera with f/2.2 aperture and a whopping 16MP selfie camera with f/2.0 aperture. On the same lines, the OPPO R9s is mentioned to come with a 16MP camera with f/1.7 aperture that can capture better images even in low light conditions. We are expecting the company to offer the same sensor on the front and back of the device. We can expect even more details to be leaked in the coming days, so stay tuned on Phone Radar for more information about the upcoming OPPO R9s.

  • Seems very good, the camera and super vooc technology is the key here in Oppo devices.. If they priced it below 18k INR, then this’d be the best!

Oppo R9s are perfect combination of mid high range specifications as well as very good camera setup like oppo F1 series.
