Android One series did not fare well at all in India, and that is not only because of the fierce competition from some brands that went aggressive with the pricing in budget range. Google defined its own terms in the design and included the good stock OS but chose to go with just the top online stores in India for selling these, and that didn’t go well. But, Google isn’t limiting this to India, as one of the Android One phones, the Karbonn Sparkle V enters UK market with a hefty pricing, double to what it was being sold in India.
Is anything changed? the specs or anything else? nothing. It is the same device with nothing changed, and UK is the first market outside India to get an Android One smartphone, which was projected as a budget range series. The smartphone is available for the price of £129.99 in Amazon UK.
To give a quick look at the specs, the Sparkle V has similar specs to that in the other Android One smartphones, i.e. Spice Dream Uno and Micromax Canvas A1, with a 4.5 inch display, a 1.3GHz quad-core Mediatek processor with 1GB RAM and it runs Android 4.4 KitKat, with a guaranteed update to Android Lollipop OS in the near future. Reports claim that the update would be available in January 2015.
For now, there is only the white variant available in UK, and for us, the Android One series was a good value-for-money products in India, alongside some other smartphones that were a pure challenge to these. But, the pricing set for the U.K. market is crazy, given that you get better smartphones for that price, and Android One series was introduced with the tag of $100 and around that.
Pay a little more than this and get the brilliantly good and better Moto G, or a little less and get the decent Moto E, both with near-stock Android experience as well. Choice is yours!
