HTC’s eye experience is what the CEO Peter Chou mentioned about, at the HTC Live event in New York. And, the company announced the HTC Desire Eye smartphone with a beautiful design, the great front camera, and water proofing to add to the physical side of it.
First thing that comes into the mind – Selfies! It is the same wide-angle 13MP camera on both, front and rear side. Both the cameras have the flash alongside, to give bright captures. The HTC Desire Eye comes with a 5.2-inch HD 1080 x 1920 display with 424 ppi. HTC’s Boom Speaker system is what is going to power the sound in the device. HTC can’t do anything wrong with this smartphone, as the HTC Desire Eye is powered with Snapdragon 801, and it has 16GB internal storage along with 2GB RAM. Doesn’t all that resemble the HTC One E8?
Let’s put some focus on the cameras:
- Rear camera: 13MP, BSI sensor, f/2.0, 28mm lens, wide angle, with HDR capability and 1080p Full HD video recording, Dual LED Flash
- Front camera: 13MP, Auto-focus with zoom capability, BSI sensor, f/2.2, 22mm lens, wide angle, with HDR capability and 1080p Full HD video recording, Dual LED Flash
There is a dedicated camera button, and the newly announced HTC Eye experience is going to be included in the Desire Eye. The Eye experience includes Face Tracking, Screen Share, Split Capture, Face Fusion, Live Makeup, Auto Selfie, Voice Selfie, Photo Booth, Crop Me In.
The smartphone has a 2400 mAh battery, and there is a plethora of connectivity options. The IPX7 certification of the Desire Eye means it is water resistant up to 1 meter for up to 30 minutes.
We will soon update with further details about the launch and availability.
It’s the year of selfies and admit it, you also take selfies. With this selfie mania, OEMs have even started to name the front facing camera as “Selfie Camera”. Moreover, some are even taking this to the next level! Sony Xperia C3 introduced frontal flash, Gionee Elife E7 had an 8MP Autofocus camera and now HTC is here to turn the tables.
According to multiple leaks, HTC Desire Eye is aimed for selfie enthusiasts and being touted as “The Ultimate Selfie Smartphone” and believe me, soon you’ll also agree with that.
HTC Desire Eye will have the following specs:
Display: 5.2 inches, 1080p
Memory: Internal 32GB
Camera: 13 MP with Dual LED flash (both front and rear)
CPU: Qualcomm Snapdragon 801 2.3Ghz

13 MEGAPIXELS! Who knew HTC would bump up the front facing camera to 13MP, which is basically the rear camera! Let it settle down for a moment and analyze, you’ll realize Oppo N1 also achieves the same thing but with a single rotating camera. Just a quick look at the device and you’ll notice some subtle physical differences. First up, on the front you’ll see absence of legendary boomsound speakers. Don’t worry, they’re still there but upon close inspection you’ll notice the speaker grills just above and below the screen (reminiscent of HTC Butterfly S’s speaker grills).
Here comes the interesting part, this time around HTC has introduced a physical camera shutter button! It still remains to be seen whether it’ll be a single click button or a two-phase button (most probably it’ll be the latter). So far only Sony provides a physical camera shutter button on Android. Moreover, it’ll have IPX7 rating protection i.e. Protection against water immersion for 30 minutes at a depth of 1 meter.
Leaked images suggest it’ll be available in Red and Blue colours at least.
Only time will tell how better or worse this dual 13MP camera setup is. Stay tuned for more info as HTC’s Double Exposure event on October 8th is just around the corner.
