HMD Launches Nokia 6 Smartphone with 4GB RAM & 16MP Camera in Taiwan

HMD Global launched the Nokia 6 smartphone exclusively in China in January this year. A couple of weeks back, the company unveiled the new Nokia 3310 feature phone along with a Nokia 3, Nokia 5, and Nokia 6 smartphones for the global markets. All the three smartphones run on the latest Android 7.0 Nougat and comes with stock Android UI unlike the customized UI as seen on the Chinese version of the Nokia 6. The Google Assistant will also come pre-installed on these smartphones. While the Android powered Nokia smartphones are mentioned to be available only from Q2 2017, now HMD Global launches the Nokia 6 smartphone in Taiwan. It is priced at NT$ 7,790 (approx $250 / Rs. 16,800) and comes with the same specifications as seen on the Chinese variant.

Earlier: January 8th, 2016 – After years of expectations, a true Android smartphone from Nokia is now made official. HMD Global, the company which bagged the exclusive rights of using the Nokia brand for the next 10 years has debuted the smartphone market by launching the Nokia 6 smartphone. In between Microsoft deal and today’s launch, Nokia launched N1 tablet powered by Android exclusively in China. As of now, the availability of the Nokia 6 is also limited to the Chinese market. It is priced at 1699 Yuan (approx $245 / Rs. 16,400) and will be sold only through JD.com. Though Nokia 6 is the first smartphone launched, the company will be launching even more smartphones in the next few months.

Speaking on the occasion, Arto Nummela, CEO of HMD Global, said,

From the outset we have stated that we intend to move with speed to establish a position as a player in the smartphone category and create products that truly meet consumer needs. The Nokia 6 is a result of listening to our consumers who desire a beautifully crafted handset with exceptional durability, entertainment and display features. Our ambition is to deliver a premium product, which meets consumer needs at every price point, in every market. We start today, with our premium, high quality Nokia 6; built to deliver a fantastic core user experience for Chinese consumers. We look forward to unveiling further products in the first half of this year.”

Talking about the device , the high-quality unibody design comes with the crafting, anodising, and polishing of the 6000 series Aluminum. It sports a 5.5-inch display with Full HD (1920 x 1080 pixels) resolution and is protected by a 2.5D Gorilla Glass on top. As rumors suggested, the device comes powered by 64-bit Snapdragon 430 octa-core processor clocked at 1.4GHz and coupled with Adreno 505 GPU. It packs 4GB of RAM and 64GB of internal storage, which can be good enough for most of the smartphone users. The dual amplifier speakers with Dolby Atmos support gives 6dB sound output with regular amp, giving higher voice, deeper bass and unmatched clarity.

Coming to the cameras, there is a 16MP rear camera with f/2.0 aperture, PDAF, and LED flash. There is an 8MP camera on the front with f/2.0 aperture and 84-degree wide-angle lens for selfies and video calls. The company mentioned the Nokia 6 to come exclusive camera UI which includes features like automatic scene detection. It runs on the latest Android 7.0 Nougat out of the box with a customized UI laid on top. The device is backed by a 3,000mAh non-removable battery that can give at least a day of usage. Connectivity options on the Nokia 6 includes 4G LTE, Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n, Bluetooth 4.1, GPS, USB OTG, 3.5mm Audio port, and MicroUSB 2.0 port. Stay tuned for more updates!
