HMD Global Officially Confirms to Launch Nokia Smartphones in 2017

HMD Global is a Finish multinational company which is manufacturing the smartphones, feature phones and tablets under the Nokia brand name and powered by Android operating system. However, the Nokia company doesn’t have any relation with HMD Global, but they will receive the royalty payments for using Nokia’s patents and given the rights to research and development. Now, the HMD Global company has officially announced that their products will be manufactured and distributed by the FIH Mobile and Foxconn company.

Brad Rodrigues, interim president of Nokia Technologies, said “We’ve been overwhelmed by the enthusiasm shown around the world for the return of the Nokia brand to smartphones. The HMD Global team has the ambition, talent, and resources to bring a new generation of Nokia branded phones to market, and we wish them every success. I’m sure our millions of Nokia fans will be excited to see their new products!”

Nokia was one of the leading mobile manufacturer company in many markets like Europe and Asia. The Nokia had aimed to grow the business in the mobile phone market, has a partnership with a Microsoft Mobile to use the Windows 7 operating system in the Lumia Series of smartphones. But Microsoft has failed to grow the smartphone business in the mobile phone market and stopped manufacturing the Lumia Series smartphones in October 2014, but it remained the feature phones.

In 2016, the Lumia smartphones sales were down to 73% in a year. So, Nokia had taken a decision to cancel the partnership with a Microsoft. Later, the Nokia Corporation company has a partnership with an HMD Global company to develop the smartphones, feature phones and tablets by using a Nokia brand name for next ten years. The HMD Global company will be manufacturing the mobiles with FIH Mobile which is the subsidiary brand of Foxconn company.

The FIH Mobile company has acquired the Microsoft features phone business and as well as their factories. And the HMD Global company has confirmed the four new Nokia branded smartphones will be announced at MWC 2017 that are in progress. One of them will be called as Nokia D1C smartphone that will come two variants that are 5-inch and 5.5-inch display variants. Both will be powered by Snapdragon 430 octa-core processor paired with Adreno 505 Graphics. So stay tuned for more details and updates on phoneradar.
