New Chrome OS Update brings Android Apps support on the Chomebook Pixel 2

Earlier, Google released Android Apps to a couple of Chromebooks, whereas some of the other Chromebooks like the Chromebook Pixel 2 still had Android Apps by the courtesy of Beta update. But now it looks like the wait is over. Google has now released the Chrome 53 update to the Chromebook Pixel 2 as well which will bring along with it, the Android Apps. So users can now download the Apps from the PlayStore and use them just like any other user would do.

It is reported that it will be as simple as launching the PlayStore app from the launcher and wait for the setup to complete and then proceed normally just as you would on an Android smartphone. However, it is reported that the Apps might be buggy or crash in some cases since these are essentially built for Android smartphones and not laptops. And not to forget the fact that these devices were built for touchscreen devices hence the experience will be different. And as far as other ChromeBooks are concerned, we don’t have any info on them so we just have to wait and see what happens and how it goes.

Earlier: We have already seen a bunch of ChromeBooks in the market so far. They are much more popular now as compared to what they were. At the time of launch a couple of years back. The main reason for the same is majorly the OS. The Chrome Operating system has evolved over time and now offers a good overall performance. Also, Google announced that the Chrome OS would be getting the Google Play store and the Android apps.

On the same lines, the initial rollout came in the unstable developer channel. It is expected to become more stable later this year as the availability expands. Now a new update is rolling out to the ChromeBook Pixel (2015), Acer Chromebook R11, and Asus Chromebook Flip with access to the Google Play services. Yes, the Chrome OS beta 53.0.2785.36 is live, and it includes Google Play access. However, the company says that it is still in Beta only, and the all the Google Play portions might not work as intended. It is reported that the system will be receiving the updates over the next couple of days.

According to the sources, the beta channel of the Chrome OS should now be more stable than the dev channel. Hence the overall experience should be much better even though the Google Play access feature is not that stable. So it is advised that if you are currently running the dev version of the Chrome OS, then you simply update to the beta version for a better and solid experience. However, it will be tested over time as to how the Google Play access is working and we will get more reports on the same pretty soon. But as mentioned, it is expected to be more stable than the previous one in terms of overall usage.

In the meantime, if you are using the latest build then you can use and report any bugs which you come across to Google Dev team via the Forum or filing a bug page. The latest version of Google Play store also allows you to join the beta testing for apps. If you updated this version, then let us know your experience and stay tuned for info on this.
